From Stay-at-Home Mom to Six-Figure Entrepreneur: My Journey and How You Can Do It Too
When I started my business over 10 years ago, I was so excited to embark on my entrepreneurial journey. As a stay-at-home homeschooling mom of six, I had always longed to do something more, something that could both support my family and serve as an educational tool for my children. I believed in the idea of using the world as our college, providing a real-life education that didn’t come with a hefty price tag.
The problem was clear: my family needed more money to support our growing needs. A regular job would not meet the income requirements we had. I needed to find a way to make a significant impact financially while still being there for my kids.
So when the opportunity to publish niche magazines came along, I was thrilled. It seemed like the perfect fit, but if I’m honest, the thought of venturing back into the professional world after fourteen years of being a full-time mom caused me a bit of anxiety. I had never owned a business, never run a magazine, never sold advertising, and never tried to balance being a mother with being an entrepreneur. It was all new territory for me.
But I was determined. I became a sponge, soaking up every bit of knowledge I could through business coaching. I learned how to make an effective pitch, how to talk to other business owners about their need to market and advertise, and how to help them connect with their ideal customers. Along the way, I made friends, made mistakes, and ultimately made my first six-figure year happen in less than six months. I was hooked.
Because of my success, I was able to take my family of eight to Disney World for the first time. I bought newer cars for myself and my husband and put my children in private school (yes, homeschooling had to take a back seat for a while). I could not believe it! Never in a million years would I have thought I could achieve such things.
Soon, I was placed in a sales leadership role within the franchise I was part of and began to get a taste of impacting other business owners and helping them find the success they wanted to experience. That was when I really found my passion. Pouring myself into other business owners to help them take their business to the next level was incredibly fulfilling, especially when they took ownership and action on what they wanted from their business.
Today, I spend my days doing exactly that—helping other entrepreneurs just like me find the purpose, value, and freedom that I was able to find when I spread my wings and leapt from my nest, terrified yet determined.
